Jorge Vello, our Director of Operations and Management Control at Pescapuerta, attended the XI Encuentro Alimarket Logística Gran Consumo. There he outlined the great challenge we face as we have a highly intensive business operation. We deal with 700 to 800 orders per day, coming in from our three logistics centres, which serve the 16 branches.
The complexity of the extractive phase, and stepping up the relocation to Vigo, are two real challenges. Currently, this first logistical phase to supply the production plants and warehouses is carried out in two ways: using our own ships, which return to land every 3 to 6 months, or by container ships, a downward trend, but still necessary at origins such as the Maldives. Today it is made up of 15 vessels, of which 13 are freezer vessels and 2 are fresh-fish vessels.
Secondly, the major challenge of standardisation in placing orders and preventing errors. To address this, we are working on a number of pilot projects with cutting-edge technologies, such as applying artificial intelligence and machine vision to control these types of operations. In this area, we are working closely with entities such as Fishing Tech, or the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI – Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial), with which we ran a programme to automate squid measurement.
We have placed 69,442 t of final product on the market. For the first time in our history we have surpassed the milestone of €305M in consolidated turnover, which means a growth of almost 6%, and of which 49%, thanks to our presence in more than 50 countries, came from foreign markets.
Our strategy is clear: financial solvency, organic growth, no large corporate operations, sustainability, strength of extractive capacity, internationalisation and the HORECA sector.
